Q: Can you tell me about how Nectar sunglasses started back in 2012 and really just how it came about? Our team must have a positive mindset and work diligently on all of the little details in order for the big things to fall into place. Business is a bit different but ultimately, I use the same mental approach to run this company. There is a competitive mindset that athletes must sustain in order to stay in shape mentally on top of the physical conditioning. In sports, you are constantly working on all of the small details to get better and improve in order to compete at the highest level. The "next play" mentality which you learn from any mistake and work to improve as you move forward. Athletics gave me the ability to fail and not dwell on those failures. There is a constant pursuit to get better every day. Sean: I carried over a lot of things I learned being a student-athlete to my business. Q: How did being a student-athlete at VCU prepare you for the business world? Specifically, are there any lessons or skill sets did you take with you in becoming an entrepreneur? ![]() Their motto "Live the sweet life" is something that is still the core of all of their branding as they want customers to focus more on experiences over things. Nectar has evolved from funky colored party sunglasses into a premium collection of polarized products that continue to evolve. They moved the operation back to Richmond for a year before settling in Charleston, S.C. Holmes and his former co-founder launched the Brand from a small apartment in Atlanta, Ga.
